According to a written statement from the Governor of Istanbul, the number of foreign visitors in the city as of the end of October this year was determined as 12 million 690 thousand 576.
Tourists number increased by 11.91 percent compared to the same period of 2018, the highest number of foreign visitors was reached this year when the number of foreign visitors arriving in January-October of the last five years is evaluated together.
The number of foreign visitors arriving to the city by air increased by 11.9 percent to 12 million 653 thousand 888 compared to the same period of 2018, while the number of visitors arriving by sea increased by 20.1 percent to 36 thousand 688.
55.7 percent of the foreigners arriving by air used Istanbul Airport, 24.5 percent used Sabiha Gokcen Airport and 19.8 percent used Ataturk Airport, which was closed in April 2019.
Germans at the top of the number of tourists in Istanbul
In the 10 months of this year, the Germans took the first place among the foreign tourists who came to Istanbul with a number of 965 thousand 115 visitors, which constitute 7.6 percent.
Iranians (6.1 percent), Iraqis (4.7 percent), Russians (4.6 percent), French (3.4 percent), British (3.3 percent), Saudi Arabia (3.2 percent) respectively. The United States (3.1 percent), Chinese (2.6 percent), Kuwaiti (2.3 percent) and other nationals (58.9 percent) followed.
