Atatürk Arboretum is just like the backyard of Istanbul with an incredibly soothing aura. It is just like a living tree museum that you can see all the shades of green, listen to the peace between the bird sounds and be one to one with nature’s itself. Even though you have met the Arboretum from the postcards and photographs, being there is an extraordinary and indescribable experience. Whether it is spring with rain and fog or it is winter with a lot of snow, it is definitely worth going there during four seasons. Atatürk Arboretum is located on the Kemerburgaz – Bahçeköy road in Istanbul, Sarıyer. The Arboretum is shedding extra peace with its natural environment, pond and walking routes. Istanbulians should be very glad to have an area just like that. It is just like the worlds own photograph studio just next to the city. There are swans and ducks swimming inside of the three ponds. Moreover, if you are lucky you can even see a squirrel too!
Atatürk Arboretum, As Old As the Belgrad
Atatürk Arboretum was built by joint efforts of Forest General Directorate and Istanbul University Forest Faculty Professor Dr. Hayrettin at 1949 on the Bahçeköy – Kilyos road. Right now, it has a unique role to host 2000 different plant species with its 296-hectare area. Since the area is kind of an open-air museum, you cannot play football or bring your pet or do long picnics.
You should definitely go to that fascinating place which is very close to the Belgrad Forest, just to read a book or have a romantic walk. It is advised to spend at least 3-4 hours to see the area. Because of the fact that there are no cafes or restaurants, if you come here on a full stomach or with a picnic basket, you can spend half a day with no difficulty or grumbling. Don’t forget to take your photograph machine!

- It is 5 minutes long to the Belgrad Forest.
- You can reach there very easily with your car and there are free parking lots too.
- Since it is a museum, it is closed on Mondays.
- Entrance fee for the Arboretum is 5 TL on weekdays and 15 TL on weekends.
- You can choose to go by public transportation from Sarıyer, Taksim and 4. Levent.
