The Biggest Tulip Carpet in the World, Sultanahmet

The largest live tulip carpet of the world prepared by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality with 565 thousand different colored tulips within the 13th Tulip Festival is exhibited in Sultanahmet Square.

The tulip carpet, which is 73 thousand square meters in size, was originally motif used in carpets and kilims woven in Anatolia.

A tulip carpet was set up in Sultanahmet Square by using 565 thousand tulips in the frame of the 13th Tulip Festival held for the 565th anniversary of Fethi of Istanbul.

The gardens, squares, streets and parks of Istanbul were crowned with spectacular beauty of 30 million lalangs planted. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the 13th Istanbul Tulip Festival, this year also equipped with the city laleyle. Sultanahmet Square, Emirgan and Göztepe 60th Year Park is the scene of colorful events.

The colorful tulips, the heralds of the spring season, created a unique landscape with the arrangement of master craftsmen. The carpet attracts the attention of the tourists from all over the world, adding a different color to the Sultanahmet Square.

The motherland of Lalas is Istanbul, the center of historical beauties. Istanbul has hosted 1588 different tulip models.

The total size of the tulip carpet is 1734 square meters. The motifs used on the carpet were specially selected. These motifs have been chosen among the anonymous motifs that have been woven in carpets and kilims for hundreds of years in the Turkish World.

During the festival that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality initiated with the slogan ‘Meeting with Istanbul Lace’, the concerts will keep the warmth of spring. Performances at Emirgan and Göztepe 60th Year Park will be held from 11 am to 5 pm every day from 1 to 30 April.
